Significant hair thinning after losing weight

Hi all, I’m looking for some guidance and hope this is the right place. I’ve always had very thick, long, blonde wavy hair, which I felt was my best attribute. Since starting weight loss injections and dropping 70 pounds, my hair density has decreased by more than 50%. My physician recommended B Complex and Vitamin E oil. Unfortunately, B vitamins make me feel ill, and while I finally tracked down the oil, I haven’t tried it yet. Does anyone have tips for natural hair restoration or regrowth? I’ve looked into it but the amount of information is overwhelming. I’d really appreciate any advice.

Did you get any labs done? This could be linked to various nutritional gaps. I experienced sudden hair loss because of low zinc after just cutting back on meat, not even going full vegan. If your calorie intake is low, it could be any number of things. You definitely need a blood test.

Ensure you’re prioritizing protein and essential nutrients during your weight loss journey. GLP-1 meds can cause such quick weight loss that even with poor eating, you’ll lose muscle and damage your hair, skin, and nails if your nutrition isn’t perfect. Plus, establishing healthy eating patterns now will help you maintain progress once you lower your dose.

I had the same issue. I started taking oral minoxidil, and after just a few months, I’m seeing a lot of new growth.

I experienced this too while on a GLP-1, but it eventually returned. Adding collagen to my morning coffee a few years back really made a huge difference for my hair health.

Great job on the weight loss! I dealt with thinning on the shots too. I tried biotin, which may have helped, but the biggest factors for me were reducing stress and using a scalp massager along with Living Proof density drops. I also used a Coco & Eve oil on my ends. I avoided minoxidil or prescriptions since I’m sensitive and already taking thyroid meds and HRT. Best of luck!

I have Telogen Effluvium, which sometimes triggers seborrheic dermatitis. I use Nizoral shampoo, washing twice and letting it sit for five minutes each time. If your hair is long, protect the ends with conditioner before shampooing the scalp. I’ve also significantly reduced shedding by using a mix of rosemary oil and rosemary tea. You can find pure rosemary essential oil on Amazon. I put about 10 drops in a small applicator bottle with the tea. You can find plenty of recipes for rosemary hair sprays online. I apply it to my scalp every night along my part and sides. It doesn’t leave my hair oily, I don’t rinse it out, and it has really helped stop the shedding.
