Is anyone else struggling with really bad dry eye? Because of corneal problems, I use Scleral lenses, and since starting perimenopause, I’m having to swap out the saline constantly. Ugh. This might be the specific issue that makes me start HRT, since I can’t just stop wearing my contacts—unless I’m okay with being blind ![]()
Prior to HRT, it felt like I had sand in my eyes (I’m a contact wearer as well). Hormone therapy has definitely helped, though they’re still not as hydrated as they were before perimenopause. I really miss having moisture. ![]()
Same here!!! Using Systane drops has provided some relief. I’ve only been on HRT for five weeks, so I can’t tell if it’s making a difference yet. The itching is so intense that I get a red spot in my tear duct, and then the sensation spreads up to the middle of my forehead…
I dealt with major eye dryness last year. My ophthalmologist suggested cleaning my lids softly with baby shampoo daily and using a warm eye compress a few times a day. That mask was great for stimulating tear production again.
Hello, I’m a 65-year-old man, so obviously I don’t have firsthand knowledge of menopause. However, I’m practically an expert on dry eyes now, haha. I use scleral lenses for keratoconus. My eyes were so dry that wearing them was difficult, and they’d fog up. I tried punctal plugs to keep tears from draining, but that wasn’t very effective. My specialist mentioned that tear glands naturally decline with age. He prescribed Restasis to boost production, but that didn’t do much for me either. Eventually, a dry eye specialist switched me to Xiidra. He said it’s much more potent than Restasis. It’s been a total lifesaver! Even though it’s prescribed for twice daily, I find once in the morning is enough. Best, D.
Totally. It feels like sandpaper in my eyes all day, and my sight gets fuzzy occasionally. Eye drops actually increase the blurriness, and by the time my vision clears up, it’s because they’re dry again ![]()
