Hi everyone. I’ve been struggling with the weight of my blankets lately. Even a thin sheet feels like lead on my toes when the neuropathy flares up at night. I recently heard about using a bed cradle or just a sturdy box at the foot of the bed to lift the covers off my feet.
I’m curious if anyone here has tried this? It seems like such a simple fix, but I wonder if it actually helps with that hypersensitive skin feeling.
Are you using one, or maybe something similar to keep the pressure off? I’d love to hear your results!

It was a total game changer for me. I couldn’t even have a cotton sheet touch my feet without jumping. Lifting the covers makes the burning much more manageable.

I’ve never heard of a bed cradle! Is it just a metal frame?

I made my own out of PVC pipe from the hardware store for about ten dollars. It works better than the expensive ones because I could custom fit it to my mattress height. Highly recommend trying it if you have that ‘allodynia’ feeling where even air hurts.

My husband uses one. It helps with the pain but his feet get very cold now since the blankets aren’t touching them. We had to get him some very loose, fuzzy socks to compensate.

Following this thread. My night flares are getting worse.

Yes, absolutely yes. I used to wake up crying because the duvet would shift and crush my big toe. The cradle keeps a little ‘tent’ over my feet. It took a few nights to get used to the look of it, but the sleep quality improvement is worth it. I got the adjustable metal one and it’s very sturdy.

I tried it but I move around too much in my sleep and kept kicking the metal bars. Just be careful if you are a restless sleeper like me!

Where do you actually buy these? Medical supply store or just online?

I found that just tucking the blankets very loosely at the end of the bed helps a bit, but a real cradle is definitely better if you can afford the space at the foot of the bed.

It’s one of the few non-drug things that actually made a difference for my peripheral neuropathy. It doesn’t stop the internal tingling, but it stops the external ‘stabbing’ from the fabric. Give it a shot!
