Does complete silence actually help tinnitus?

Many of us are told to seek out quiet when the ringing starts, but I’ve found that complete silence often makes the brain turn up the volume on internal noise. It’s a common misconception that avoiding all sound is the best way to heal. In my experience, and based on what I’ve been reading lately, gentle background stimulation is usually more effective for habituation.

I’ve also been looking at the nutritional side of things. While I’m always skeptical of overnight fixes, I started focusing on ingredients like grape seed and maca root to support blood flow. I’ve been using a liquid supplement called ZenCortex (got mine here) for about two months now. It hasn’t deleted the tinnitus, but the intensity feels dampened, and my overall clarity seems sharper. It’s worth noting that everyone’s biology is different, so what works for my ears might not work for yours. It’s about finding that balance between external sound therapy and internal support. Don’t let the silence become deafening.

I completely agree about the silence. When I’m in a dead-quiet room, the ‘hissing’ in my ears gets so loud I can’t even think. I usually keep a fan running.

Interesting point about the brain ‘turning up the volume.’ I noticed the same thing when I tried those noise-canceling headphones. It actually made the ringing feel more aggressive.

I’ve heard about the grape seed extract benefits before. Did you notice any side effects when you started the new routine?

I’ve had a similar experience with ZenCortex lately. The ringing isn’t gone, but it’s much more manageable during the day and the drops are easy to take.

I agree with the OP. I started ZenCortex a few weeks back and the maca root in it seems to be helping with my focus too, which usually suffers when my ears are acting up.

I find that cutting out caffeine also helps. It’s hard to do, but the spikes aren’t as bad when I’m not over-stimulated.

My ENT told me the same thing about sound enrichment. He suggested low-level music or nature sounds. It’s about training the brain to ignore the internal signal by giving it something external to focus on. It takes months though, so you have to be patient.

Thanks for sharing this. It’s good to know I’m not crazy for thinking silence was making it worse.

How long did it take before you noticed the dampening effect? I’ve tried a few things but usually give up after a week if I don’t see results.

For those asking about the supplements, ZenCortex definitely gave me good results after the first month of consistent use. It’s subtle but effective.

Good post. It’s all about management and not looking for a ‘cure’ that might not exist yet. Just making life 20% better is a huge win at our age.
