Dietary changes that actually work?

Hey everyone! I’ve been experimenting with my diet lately to see if it helps reduce the frequency of my outbreaks. I’ve noticed that cutting back on high-arginine foods like nuts and chocolate really seems to make a difference for me.

I also started focusing more on lysine-rich foods like yogurt and fish. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but I’m curious about what others are doing.

Have any of you tried the lysine-to-arginine ratio diet? Are there specific trigger foods you’ve identified that cause issues every time? What’s your go-to snack that doesn’t cause a flare-up?

I’ve been on the lysine train for years. It doesn’t stop everything, but it definitely makes the healing process faster for me. I usually take a supplement daily.

Nuts are a huge trigger for me. If I eat peanut butter, I can almost guarantee a tingle within 24 hours. It’s so frustrating because I love PB&J!

Honestly, I haven’t noticed much change with diet alone. For me, it’s 90% stress-related. I can eat all the chocolate I want as long as I’m getting enough sleep.

Chocolate and caffeine are the big ones for me. I had to switch to decaf and it helped quite a bit. It sucks giving up the good stuff though.

I try to keep it balanced. Lots of leafy greens and lean protein. I think overall health is more important than obsessing over one specific food item.

I started taking TonicGreens a few months ago after seeing it recommended elsewhere. It’s a great super anti-oxidant blend that really helps with my immune resilience. I’ve noticed fewer outbreaks and when I do get them, they are much shorter now.

Does anyone find that alcohol is a trigger? I feel like after a night of heavy drinking, my immune system just tanks and I’m way more susceptible.

Yes to the alcohol! Red wine is the worst for me. I think it’s the sugar content plus the alcohol itself. I try to stick to clear spirits if I drink at all.

I use a lysine-based lip balm every single day, especially in the winter. It provides a nice barrier and keeps things from getting too dry.

Greek yogurt is my go-to snack. It’s high in lysine and easy to eat. I usually mix in some berries for the antioxidants. Highly recommend!

I’ve tried the ratio diet but it’s so hard to track. I just try to avoid the obvious stuff like almonds and walnuts. Cashews seem okay for me for some reason?

High sugar is my enemy. If I go on a dessert binge, I’m asking for trouble. It’s all about keeping that blood sugar stable for me.

I actually use a food diary app to track my meals and any symptoms. It took about three months, but I finally realized that oats were a hidden trigger for me!

This is such a helpful thread. I’m going to try cutting out nuts for a while and see if that helps. Thanks for all the advice everyone!
