After struggling for years, I finally found a balance that keeps things under control. It came down to three specific areas for me: diet, supplements, and timing.
Diet: I started strictly avoiding high-arginine foods like nuts and chocolate during high-stress weeks. I also increased lysine-rich foods like yogurt and fish.
Supplements: I take 1000mg of L-Lysine daily on an empty stomach. If I feel a tingle, I double that dose immediately.
Timing: I track my cycle and stress levels to predict when I am most vulnerable. This proactive approach has cut my outbreaks down significantly.

The arginine/lysine balance is honestly a game changer. Most people don’t realize how much chocolate can trigger a flare.

Which brand of Lysine do you use? I’ve seen some that have a lot of fillers.

Do you find that dairy helps? I’ve heard mixed things about yogurt.

I’ve been doing the same supplement routine for about six months now. I also added a Zinc supplement which seems to help speed up healing if one does manage to pop up. Great advice on the timing part too—knowing your cycle is key for women dealing with this.

Tracking stress is the hardest part for me. It feels like stress is just a constant state of being lately lol.

To the person asking about yogurt—it’s high in lysine, so it’s generally considered very good for managing HSV. Just watch out for the high sugar ones as sugar can cause inflammation which doesn’t help anything.

This is basically my exact routine. It works.

I’m new to this and feeling pretty overwhelmed, so seeing a simple framework like this makes it feel much more manageable. Going to try the Lysine tip starting tomorrow.
