My skin is oily and prone to breakouts, so I’m searching for a substitute for SkinCeuticals Vitamin C. I gave Mad Hippie’s version a shot since it’s so highly recommended, but I really disliked it. I was surprised that no one mentioned the strong floral scent; it was way too intense for me.
Check out Regimen Labs; the formulation is almost identical.
DRMTLGY CEF has been the most similar option for me. Other solid choices include Timeless, Geek & Gorgeous, Theramid Ascorbic C15, Regimen Lab Vitamin X, Wildfleur, Vichy, and Prequel.
Vitamin C from Timeless
I worry about buying pure l-ascorbic acid because its shelf life begins at production, not when you open it. Since there’s air in the bottle, LAA starts breaking down immediately. Plus, shipping can take over a week. I’ve heard reports of it arriving already discolored. I imagine heat during transport or storage doesn’t help either, as it should stay cool. It’s a very finicky and unstable component. What are your experiences with international shipping for these brands?
I’m not sure if you like ELF, but their C E Ferulic serum is a great value. It’s fragrance-free, and instead of that typical metallic ‘hot dog’ odor, it has a mild earthy smell that disappears once you apply lotion or SPF. Also, while the 30 ml is $22, the 15 ml travel sizes are $11, which lets you use smaller amounts without worrying as much about the whole batch oxidizing from air exposure.
Give Indeed Labs a go! It’s scentless and gentle on the skin. I’m currently on my fourth bottle and love it. Plus, it’s a Canadian brand.
The 20% Vitamin C with ferulic acid from Timeless is available on Amazon for $48.
The Glow Maker Vitamin C serum from Maelove.
