After years of crossword puzzles and ginkgo, something actually changed my focus?

I’m 64 now, and for the last five years, I’ve felt like I was losing my edge. It started with forgetting why I walked into a room, then progressed to struggling to find the right words during dinner conversations. I tried everything from high-dose fish oil to those expensive memory games on my tablet, but nothing felt like it was actually moving the needle. I just felt like I was getting better at the games, not better at life.

A few months ago, I decided to try something different. Instead of another pill, I looked into the science of neurotrophic factors and sound frequencies. I started using a program called Brain Song (ordered here). It’s just 15 minutes of audio a day. At first, I didn’t feel anything. I actually almost quit after the first week because it felt too simple to work.

But by the end of the first month, something shifted. I wasn’t searching for words as often. By month three, I noticed I could follow complex plotlines in movies again without getting confused. The Brain Song frequency apparently helps with BDNF, which is like a protein that cleans up the brain.

It’s not a miracle. I still have the occasional ‘senior moment’ if I’m tired, and the 15-minute daily commitment can be a chore when I’m busy. Also, you really need decent headphones to get the most out of it. But compared to the supplements that did nothing for my wallet or my head, this has been a game-changer. I finally feel like I’m participating in my life again rather than just observing it from a fog.

I’ve been using Brain Song for about six weeks now and the morning fog is definitely lighter. It’s subtle but real, especially with my short-term recall.

Sound frequencies? I’ve heard about this for sleep, but for memory? How does that even work physiologically? I’m always a bit wary of anything that isn’t a physical supplement.

I’m 68 and in the same boat. Do you have to do it at the same time every day? I’m terrible with routines and usually forget my vitamins half the time anyway.

I tried the tablet games too. Total waste of time. They just teach you how to be good at the game, but I’d still lose my car keys five minutes after putting them down.

Is it a subscription or a one-time thing? I’m tired of monthly bills that I forget to cancel. Also, do you need a specific type of headphone?

My daughter bought me Brain Song after she saw a neuroscientist talking about it. I was skeptical but my focus during my bridge games has improved immensely. I’m actually winning again!

Make sure you aren’t just dehydrated. I found that half my ‘brain fog’ was just not drinking enough water. But the BDNF stuff is interesting, I’ve read about it in health journals.

What kind of sounds are they? Like nature sounds or just white noise? I can’t stand high-pitched beeping sounds, they give me a headache.

The Brain Song tracks are actually quite relaxing. I usually listen while I’m having my morning tea. It’s been the only thing that helped my word-recall issues after my 60th birthday.

Glad it worked for you. I tried a similar frequency program last year and it didn’t do much, but maybe I wasn’t consistent enough. I might give this one a look if it’s different.

Thanks for sharing this. I think I’m going to look into the research. I’m 62 and the word-finding thing is driving me crazy lately. It feels so embarrassing in meetings.
