Advice for the ADEX Periodontal Component

What was your experience with the periodontal part of the ADEX dental exam? Based on my online research, it appears to be one of the easier parts of the test. However, I’m looking for firsthand accounts and suggestions. For instance, what are common reasons for failing? Is it better to use a cavitron if provided? Also, what was the appearance of the artificial calculus—was it dark or light? Thank you!

I cleared it, and so did the majority of my peers. We weren’t allowed to use a cavitron; hand instruments were mandatory. The calculus was light in color, resembling supragingival deposits, though it was located subgingivally.

It’s extremely easy. A cavitron isn’t necessary. The fake calculus feels and looks like dried tempbond. A lot of it can be cleared away just using air or a probe.

Be thorough in checking below the gumline and don’t forget to inspect teeth that weren’t specifically designated.
